Gutter replacement estimate example
Priced by the foot, argued over by the downspout. Count everything on the bid.
"remove old gutters, 160 lf 6in seamless aluminum k style, 6 downspouts 3x4, hidden hangers 24 oc, splash blocks, color white, haul off old, no guards"
Example figures for a typical gutter replacement job. Not a quote. Every line on the estimate came from the notes above. Nothing was added.
What to spell out on a gutter replacement bid
- Linear feet, gutter size, and the downspout count and size.
- Hanger type and spacing. It is what separates a gutter that holds snow from one that pulls off.
- Color, and that the finish warranty is the manufacturer's.
- Guards as a separate option with a price, so it is not assumed.
On an insurance job, put the claim number on the proposal and say how supplements are handled. Note that the schedule depends on weather.
The parts of this estimate
- Scope of work. 5 lines, one thing each, in the order the work happens. What is not included is on the list too.
- One price. $2,240. Not a formula, not a range. The scope explains the number.
- Timeline. 1 day. Including dry time, cure time, or permit time, so the customer plans around it.
- Payment terms. Due on completion. Nothing down. The customer pays when the work is done.
- Warranty. 2 years on workmanship, 20-year manufacturer finish warranty.
- A way to accept. The customer types their name and signs with a finger on their phone. Legally binding under the E-SIGN Act, and recorded with the date, time, and the exact estimate they agreed to.
Questions roofers ask about this bid
Should I quote guards on the same bid?
Yes, as an add-on with its own price. Customers who want them say yes on the spot and you skip the second visit.
Fascia repair?
Say rotten fascia found during the job is replaced at a stated price per foot, with a photo first.
Is this a real quote?
No. The numbers are example figures for a typical job so you can see how a complete estimate reads. Your price is yours.
Can my customer sign this on their phone?
Yes. An estimate sent from BidWriter Pro opens as a link. The customer reads it, types their name, signs with a finger, and pays the deposit by card. You get an alert when they open it and when they sign.
