Window replacement estimate example
Eight custom-sized units and a six-week wait. The deposit date is the start of the clock and the bid should say so.
"8 vinyl double hung insert replacements white low-e argon with screens, measure and order, remove and haul old, interior caulk touch up, exterior capping white, 4-6 wk lead after deposit"
Example figures for a typical window replacement job. Not a quote. Every line on the estimate came from the notes above. Nothing was added.
What to spell out on a window replacement bid
- Each opening on its own line, or a count with sizes attached.
- Insert versus full-frame, and that the existing frame stays.
- What the interior looks like after: caulk and touch-up, not new trim.
- Lead time in weeks from the deposit, not from the signature.
Lead times on custom windows are long and the deposit is what starts the clock. Say that on the bid so nobody is surprised at week six.
The parts of this estimate
- Scope of work. 6 lines, one thing each, in the order the work happens. What is not included is on the list too.
- One price. $8,400. Not a formula, not a range. The scope explains the number.
- Timeline. 2 days on site, after the order arrives. Including dry time, cure time, or permit time, so the customer plans around it.
- Payment terms. 50% upfront, 50% on completion. The $4,200 deposit is paid by card when they sign.
- Warranty. 2 years on workmanship, manufacturer warranty on the units.
- A way to accept. The customer types their name and signs with a finger on their phone. Legally binding under the E-SIGN Act, and recorded with the date, time, and the exact estimate they agreed to.
Questions window and door installers ask about this bid
Insert or full frame?
Insert when the frame is sound and the customer wants it fast and cheaper. Full frame when there is rot or they want more glass. Say which this is.
Why half down?
Custom windows cannot be returned. Half covers the order.
Is this a real quote?
No. The numbers are example figures for a typical job so you can see how a complete estimate reads. Your price is yours.
Can my customer sign this on their phone?
Yes. An estimate sent from BidWriter Pro opens as a link. The customer reads it, types their name, signs with a finger, and pays the deposit by card. You get an alert when they open it and when they sign.
