Entry door install estimate example
One door, many small decisions. The hardware and the paint are the two the customer owns.
"replace front entry door w fiberglass prehung 36 in, half lite, new jamb and threshold, deadbolt and handleset customer supplies, paint exterior color customer picks, interior trim reused, haul old"
Example figures for a typical entry door install job. Not a quote. Every line on the estimate came from the notes above. Nothing was added.
What to spell out on a entry door install bid
- Door size, material, lite style, and swing.
- What is new: jamb, threshold, weatherstrip. What is reused: interior trim.
- Who supplies the hardware and that it must be on site on install day.
- Paint, stain, or prefinished, and who picks the color.
Lead times on custom windows are long and the deposit is what starts the clock. Say that on the bid so nobody is surprised at week six.
The parts of this estimate
- Scope of work. 6 lines, one thing each, in the order the work happens. What is not included is on the list too.
- One price. $2,350. Not a formula, not a range. The scope explains the number.
- Timeline. 1 day, after the door arrives. Including dry time, cure time, or permit time, so the customer plans around it.
- Payment terms. 50% upfront, 50% on completion. The $1,175 deposit is paid by card when they sign.
- Warranty. 2 years on workmanship, manufacturer warranty on the door.
- A way to accept. The customer types their name and signs with a finger on their phone. Legally binding under the E-SIGN Act, and recorded with the date, time, and the exact estimate they agreed to.
Questions window and door installers ask about this bid
Should I supply the hardware?
Either way, say it. Customer-supplied hardware that is not on site stops the job.
Rot in the subfloor at the threshold?
A line: repair at a stated rate if found, with a photo first.
Is this a real quote?
No. The numbers are example figures for a typical job so you can see how a complete estimate reads. Your price is yours.
Can my customer sign this on their phone?
Yes. An estimate sent from BidWriter Pro opens as a link. The customer reads it, types their name, signs with a finger, and pays the deposit by card. You get an alert when they open it and when they sign.
