Shower rebuild estimate example
The most common tile bid and the one with the most ways to go wrong. Waterproofing and who supplies the tile are the two to nail down.
"master shower rebuild demo to studs, kerdi board and waterproofing, 12x24 porcelain walls customer supplies, 2x2 mosaic floor, niche, curb, valve by plumber not incl, grout color customer picks"
Example figures for a typical shower rebuild job. Not a quote. Every line on the estimate came from the notes above. Nothing was added.
What to spell out on a shower rebuild bid
- The waterproofing method by name. It is the difference between your bid and the cheap one.
- Who supplies the tile, how much overage to buy, and that shortages are on the customer.
- What the plumber does and that it is not in this price.
- That the subfloor and studs are assumed sound, and what happens if they are not.
Customer-supplied tile is common. Say how much overage they need to buy and that broken or short boxes are on them.
The parts of this estimate
- Scope of work. 7 lines, one thing each, in the order the work happens. What is not included is on the list too.
- One price. $5,400. Not a formula, not a range. The scope explains the number.
- Timeline. 5 days. Including dry time, cure time, or permit time, so the customer plans around it.
- Payment terms. 50% upfront, 50% on completion. The $2,700 deposit is paid by card when they sign.
- Warranty. 2 years on workmanship.
- A way to accept. The customer types their name and signs with a finger on their phone. Legally binding under the E-SIGN Act, and recorded with the date, time, and the exact estimate they agreed to.
Questions tile setters ask about this bid
How much overage should the customer buy?
Ten percent on a straight lay, fifteen on a diagonal or a herringbone. Put the number on the bid.
Can I include the plumber?
If you sub it, yes, and say so. Most tile setters leave the valve to the plumber and write it as not included.
Is this a real quote?
No. The numbers are example figures for a typical job so you can see how a complete estimate reads. Your price is yours.
Can my customer sign this on their phone?
Yes. An estimate sent from BidWriter Pro opens as a link. The customer reads it, types their name, signs with a finger, and pays the deposit by card. You get an alert when they open it and when they sign.
