Tile floor install estimate example
Floors are square footage and prep. Put the prep on the bid so the price makes sense next to a cheaper one that skipped it.
"tile floor kitchen and hall approx 220 sq ft, remove old vinyl, 1/4 in cement board, 12x24 porcelain customer supplies, 1/3 offset, grey grout, transitions to carpet and wood"
Example figures for a typical tile floor install job. Not a quote. Every line on the estimate came from the notes above. Nothing was added.
What to spell out on a tile floor install bid
- The underlayment, by product, because the floor is only as good as what is under it.
- Offset or pattern. Large-format tile at a 50 percent offset lips. Say 1/3.
- Transitions, and that the other floors are not touched.
- That the subfloor is assumed flat within tolerance, and leveling is extra if needed.
Customer-supplied tile is common. Say how much overage they need to buy and that broken or short boxes are on them.
The parts of this estimate
- Scope of work. 6 lines, one thing each, in the order the work happens. What is not included is on the list too.
- One price. $2,900. Not a formula, not a range. The scope explains the number.
- Timeline. 4 days. Including dry time, cure time, or permit time, so the customer plans around it.
- Payment terms. 50% upfront, 50% on completion. The $1,450 deposit is paid by card when they sign.
- Warranty. 2 years on workmanship.
- A way to accept. The customer types their name and signs with a finger on their phone. Legally binding under the E-SIGN Act, and recorded with the date, time, and the exact estimate they agreed to.
Questions tile setters ask about this bid
Should I include floor leveling?
Only if you have seen the floor. Otherwise put a rate for self-leveler if needed and say it.
Why 1/3 offset?
Large tiles bow slightly. A 50 percent offset puts the high middle next to the low end and you feel it underfoot. Say 1/3 on the bid so the customer does not ask for a brick pattern later.
Is this a real quote?
No. The numbers are example figures for a typical job so you can see how a complete estimate reads. Your price is yours.
Can my customer sign this on their phone?
Yes. An estimate sent from BidWriter Pro opens as a link. The customer reads it, types their name, signs with a finger, and pays the deposit by card. You get an alert when they open it and when they sign.
