Kitchen backsplash estimate example
Small job, big visibility. The pattern and the grout color are the lines that keep the customer happy with the result.
"backsplash approx 40 sq ft, 3x12 subway tile customer supplies, straight lay, white grout, remove old 4in granite splash, caulk at counter, outlet extenders"
Example figures for a typical kitchen backsplash job. Not a quote. Every line on the estimate came from the notes above. Nothing was added.
What to spell out on a kitchen backsplash bid
- Square footage and the pattern. A herringbone is a different price than a straight lay.
- Grout color, in writing, because it is the thing customers change their minds about.
- What happens to the old splash and the wall behind it.
- Outlet extenders and that the electrical is not touched otherwise.
Customer-supplied tile is common. Say how much overage they need to buy and that broken or short boxes are on them.
The parts of this estimate
- Scope of work. 6 lines, one thing each, in the order the work happens. What is not included is on the list too.
- One price. $950. Not a formula, not a range. The scope explains the number.
- Timeline. 2 days. Including dry time, cure time, or permit time, so the customer plans around it.
- Payment terms. Due on completion. Nothing down. The customer pays when the work is done.
- Warranty. 2 years on workmanship.
- A way to accept. The customer types their name and signs with a finger on their phone. Legally binding under the E-SIGN Act, and recorded with the date, time, and the exact estimate they agreed to.
Questions tile setters ask about this bid
Deposit on a backsplash?
Usually not when the customer supplies the tile. Due on completion reads clean.
What if the wall is bad behind the old splash?
A line that drywall repair behind the old splash is extra if needed, at a stated rate.
Is this a real quote?
No. The numbers are example figures for a typical job so you can see how a complete estimate reads. Your price is yours.
Can my customer sign this on their phone?
Yes. An estimate sent from BidWriter Pro opens as a link. The customer reads it, types their name, signs with a finger, and pays the deposit by card. You get an alert when they open it and when they sign.
