Interior repaint estimate example
Painting bids lose money on prep that was assumed and scope that grew by a room. List every surface.
"interior, living rm dining rm hallway and 2 bedrooms, 2 coats walls, ceilings flat white, trim and doors semi gloss white, patch nail holes and small dings, customer picks wall color, furniture moved to center by customer, we cover"
Example figures for a typical interior repaint job. Not a quote. Every line on the estimate came from the notes above. Nothing was added.
What to spell out on a interior repaint bid
- Each room and each surface: walls, ceilings, trim, doors, closets.
- Coats, and the paint line if you are supplying it.
- Where prep stops: nail holes yes, cracked drywall no.
- Who moves what, and that you cover everything that stays.
Most painting arguments are about prep and about what was not included. Write both down and they do not happen.
The parts of this estimate
- Scope of work. 5 lines, one thing each, in the order the work happens. What is not included is on the list too.
- One price. $3,650. Not a formula, not a range. The scope explains the number.
- Timeline. 3 days. Including dry time, cure time, or permit time, so the customer plans around it.
- Payment terms. 25% upfront, balance on completion. The $912 deposit is paid by card when they sign.
- Warranty. 2 years on workmanship.
- A way to accept. The customer types their name and signs with a finger on their phone. Legally binding under the E-SIGN Act, and recorded with the date, time, and the exact estimate they agreed to.
Questions painters ask about this bid
Should I charge by the room or by the square foot?
Price however you want. Put one total on the bid and list the rooms. Customers sign a total, not a formula.
Color changes after signing?
Put a line on the bid: a color change after the first coat is a change order at a stated amount.
Is this a real quote?
No. The numbers are example figures for a typical job so you can see how a complete estimate reads. Your price is yours.
Can my customer sign this on their phone?
Yes. An estimate sent from BidWriter Pro opens as a link. The customer reads it, types their name, signs with a finger, and pays the deposit by card. You get an alert when they open it and when they sign.
