Exterior repaint estimate example
Weather, prep, and color count are the three things that move an exterior bid. All three go on the page.
"exterior 1 story 2200 sq ft hardie siding, power wash, scrape and prime bare spots, caulk gaps, 2 coats acrylic body, trim and fascia contrasting color, front door, garage door, shutters, 2 colors plus door"
Example figures for a typical exterior repaint job. Not a quote. Every line on the estimate came from the notes above. Nothing was added.
What to spell out on a exterior repaint bid
- The siding type. Stucco, brick, wood, and fiber cement are all different jobs.
- Where prep stops. Loose paint scraped and spot primed, not full strip.
- Color count, because every extra color is an extra day.
- What rain does to the schedule, and that you do not paint wet siding.
Most painting arguments are about prep and about what was not included. Write both down and they do not happen.
The parts of this estimate
- Scope of work. 5 lines, one thing each, in the order the work happens. What is not included is on the list too.
- One price. $6,400. Not a formula, not a range. The scope explains the number.
- Timeline. 5 days, weather permitting. Including dry time, cure time, or permit time, so the customer plans around it.
- Payment terms. 25% upfront, balance on completion. The $1,600 deposit is paid by card when they sign.
- Warranty. 3 years on workmanship.
- A way to accept. The customer types their name and signs with a finger on their phone. Legally binding under the E-SIGN Act, and recorded with the date, time, and the exact estimate they agreed to.
Questions painters ask about this bid
Rotten wood?
Say that rotten trim or siding found during prep is replaced at a stated price per foot, with a photo first.
Why a deposit on a paint job?
A quarter at signing covers paint and holds the week. Most customers expect it.
Is this a real quote?
No. The numbers are example figures for a typical job so you can see how a complete estimate reads. Your price is yours.
Can my customer sign this on their phone?
Yes. An estimate sent from BidWriter Pro opens as a link. The customer reads it, types their name, signs with a finger, and pays the deposit by card. You get an alert when they open it and when they sign.
