Composite deck build estimate example
Composite is sold on the deck board and built on the frame. Put the framing on the bid so the price is not compared to one with joists at 16 inches.
"16x20 composite deck 3 ft off grade, pt frame 12 in oc on concrete footings, grey composite decking hidden fasteners, black aluminum railing, 4 ft stairs, permit and inspection incl, tear out old deck and haul"
Example figures for a typical composite deck build job. Not a quote. Every line on the estimate came from the notes above. Nothing was added.
What to spell out on a composite deck build bid
- Size, height, and the framing: joist spacing, footings, ledger.
- Decking product and color, and hidden or face fasteners.
- Railing material, height, and style.
- Permit, inspection, and that the old deck comes out and goes away.
Composite versus wood changes the price by thousands. Put both as packages on one bid when the customer is undecided, and say what the railing is.
The parts of this estimate
- Scope of work. 7 lines, one thing each, in the order the work happens. What is not included is on the list too.
- One price. $18,900. Not a formula, not a range. The scope explains the number.
- Timeline. 6 working days, after permit. Including dry time, cure time, or permit time, so the customer plans around it.
- Payment terms. 30% upfront, 40% at framing, 30% on completion. The $5,670 deposit is paid by card when they sign.
- Warranty. 5 years on workmanship, manufacturer warranty on composite.
- A way to accept. The customer types their name and signs with a finger on their phone. Legally binding under the E-SIGN Act, and recorded with the date, time, and the exact estimate they agreed to.
Questions deck builders ask about this bid
Why 12 inches on center?
Most composite requires it for diagonal or for stair treads, and it feels solid. Say it so the customer sees why the frame costs what it does.
Three payments?
Material delivery, then framing, then done. Each one is a thing the customer can see.
Is this a real quote?
No. The numbers are example figures for a typical job so you can see how a complete estimate reads. Your price is yours.
Can my customer sign this on their phone?
Yes. An estimate sent from BidWriter Pro opens as a link. The customer reads it, types their name, signs with a finger, and pays the deposit by card. You get an alert when they open it and when they sign.
