Drain field replacement estimate example
A yard gets torn up and a county inspector decides when it gets put back. Both belong on the bid.
"replace failed drain field, 3 lateral lines 60 ft each gravel and pipe, new distribution box, tie into existing tank, permit and county inspection incl, rough grade only, electrical not incl"
Example figures for a typical drain field replacement job. Not a quote. Every line on the estimate came from the notes above. Nothing was added.
What to spell out on a drain field replacement bid
- Line count, length, and the method, matched to the permit and the soil test.
- That the existing tank is reused and assumed sound, with a price if it is not.
- What the yard looks like after. Rough graded, no sod, no sprinklers repaired.
- The inspection step and that the schedule depends on the county.
The county inspection schedule drives the timeline. Put it on the bid so the customer is not calling on day three asking why there is a hole in the yard.
The parts of this estimate
- Scope of work. 6 lines, one thing each, in the order the work happens. What is not included is on the list too.
- One price. $9,800. Not a formula, not a range. The scope explains the number.
- Timeline. 3 days on site, plus the county inspection. Including dry time, cure time, or permit time, so the customer plans around it.
- Payment terms. 40% upfront, 40% on start, 20% on final inspection. The $3,920 deposit is paid by card when they sign.
- Warranty. 1 year on workmanship.
- A way to accept. The customer types their name and signs with a finger on their phone. Legally binding under the E-SIGN Act, and recorded with the date, time, and the exact estimate they agreed to.
Questions septic contractors ask about this bid
Why a payment at inspection?
The job is not done until the county says so. Tying the last payment to it keeps everyone honest and the customer informed.
What about the sprinkler lines?
Say they will be cut and that repair is not included, or price it. They are always in the way.
Is this a real quote?
No. The numbers are example figures for a typical job so you can see how a complete estimate reads. Your price is yours.
Can my customer sign this on their phone?
Yes. An estimate sent from BidWriter Pro opens as a link. The customer reads it, types their name, signs with a finger, and pays the deposit by card. You get an alert when they open it and when they sign.
